Exminster Long Table is organised by the Exminster Long Table Community Interest Company and run with the assistance of volunteers. We would like everybody to come together and celebrate living in Exminster!
The purpose of ELT is twofold. Firstly, it is a community event, organised and run by members of the village in the hope that community spirit will be enhanced through the shared and fun experience of eating a meal together in the centre of our lovely village. The second purpose is for the distribution of profits generated by the event to good causes in Exminster and in our partner community around Nayamba School in a rural part of Zambia. The Exminster community have been strong supporters of Nayamba Primary School in Zambia for many years with organisations and individuals throughout the village raising funds for this very poor but lovely community. We therefore thought it fitting to share any profits generated by ELT between both communities. |
The inspiration for ELT stems from Nello’s Longest Table which forms part of the Topsham Food Festival and has grown in popularity over the last few years. Some Exminster residents attended the Topsham event and thought it would be fantastic if Exminster could have its own version and the idea for ELT was born.
The first ELT in 2017 was funded by a grant from the Celebrate England Fund of The Big Lottery. This enabled all of the equipment, signs and advertising to be paid for. The demand in the first year far outstripped expectations and demonstrated sufficient appetite to make it a regular event in the village calendar.
In order to facilitate the smooth running of the event, The Exminster Long Table (ELT) has been registered as a Community Interest Company. The current Directors are; Richard Pike, Karen Pike, James Brookes and Gleny Brookes who are all long standing residents and enthusiastic supporters of Exminster. |
